Medical Requirement
Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving.
Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course.
Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive.
If you (or your physician) have questions about medical fitness to dive, contact the experts at Divers Alert Network (DAN).
Prerequisites & Minimum Age
Course prerequisites: able to swim, medically fit for diving, comfortable in the water.
From the age of 10, one can obtain a Discover Scuba Diving certification.
Do I need to provide my own buddy or fellow student to take the courses?
No. All of our courses are led by highly experienced instructors. You are assigned to a group, and you will always have enough fellow students to be your 'buddy'. In private courses, the instructor is your 'buddy'. It is also not necessary to stay with the same fellow students throughout the course. The groups can be reorganized daily, depending on the module you are currently taking.
Is Discover Scuba safe?
Are There Sharks in Samos, Greece?
Yes, sharks do exist in the waters around Greece, including Samos, but there’s no need to worry! The Aegean Sea is home to a variety of marine life, including some species of sharks, but they are generally harmless to humans (typically small and non-aggressive species like the dogfish or smooth-hound shark). These sharks are more interested in their natural diet of small fish than in humans. Shark encounters in the Aegean Sea are extremely rare. Sharks tend to avoid humans and prefer deeper waters far from the shore. In fact, most people who snorkel or dive in Samos never encounter a shark at all. Sharks are an important part of the marine ecosystem and help maintain the balance of the underwater world. If you’re lucky enough to spot one during your dive, consider it a rare and exciting experience!
Will I receive a scuba diving certification after this program?
More Info
No. The PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) experience is not a certification course but rather an introduction to scuba diving for beginners. It’s designed to give people a safe and enjoyable taste of what scuba diving is like, under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. While it doesn’t result in a scuba certification, it’s an excellent way to decide if you want to pursue the PADI Open Water Diver certification, which is the first full certification course.
